Just a little bit of info about me.
Grew up riding my bike in South Africa mainly on dirt tracks through the veld. For over 25 years I’ve been cycling competitively and have been a member of SWRC for over 15 years. I’ve been a 1st Cat racer and have spent too many years getting up early for 10mile to 24hour time trials. More recently my cycling has focussed on Audaxing.
In 2003, I took part in my first Paris-Brest-Paris. I have since completed a couple more PBPs (in 2011, my time was 53h49mins and I was the 2nd Briton to finish).
In January 2012, I shattered my femur in a cycling accident and was off my bike for a full year, only starting back on my bike at the beginning of 2013. As a goal to get back to fitness, I chose to do London Edinburgh London 2013 – which I was happy to complete in 90hours.
For 2014, I have entered The Transcontinental race. This is a non-stop unsupported race from London to Istanbul – a distance of around 3500km. As part of my training, I have also entered the Mile Failte 1200 km Audax in Ireland in June.
I am also going to be cycling to raise awareness and hopefully lots of money, for a charity called African Vision Malawi.
In particular, ‘500miles’, which is an initiative that supports disabled people in Malawi. So don’t be shy, any amount will be warmly received!
Hey Paul! When is the London to Istanbul?
Hi Debs
It starts on the 9th of August from Westminster Bridge.
